VDA produces many types of local and nationwide events: meetings & conferences, branded activations, exhibit booths, corporate-themed events, and more. We are searching for an individual to join our Production Team and be part of our continued success. The Production team operates in an agile collaborative style with the Shop Manager as its hands-on lead on the floor.
The successful hire will be detail-oriented, creative, have a basic knowledge of the event industry, knowledge of theatrical, millwork, and metal shop fabrication methods, and a desire to work collaboratively with a strong team of skilled creative professionals.
A typical day for the shop manager would include the management of teams of 4 to 20 full-time and freelance carpenters and welders; collaboration with the director, associate director, project managers, and the paint shop manager to determine the daily needs of the department and other departments regarding production; and driving the schedule to stay on time and under budget on all production projects. The ability to operate Vectorworks 2022 is a plus and will need to be learned. The ability to operate the Shop CNC machine will also be required and need to be learned.
Experience in production shops or theatrical fabrication are a big plus, but the successful candidate will come with a positive attitude and a desire to not only succeed at the given tasks but to make the company and department a place where creative production employees want to work. • 3-5 years of wood and metal construction, Theatrical scenery, Millwork.
• High school graduate or GED required, trade school or secondary education is also preferred.
• Experience managing crews of 4 or more wood and metal fabricators.
• Basic tool maintenance and calibration
• Ability to track inventory and maintain accurate budgets
• Drafting a plus (Vectorworks 2022)
• Experience with CNC machine usage and operation a plus.
This position is a full-time opportunity. The role is a hands-on management role and will require the manager to be on the floor building as part of the production team with this in mind the position is paid hourly at a rate starting at $25-$28 per hour. Shop hours are Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm with occasional evening and weekend work as needed. Medical, Dental, Life & Disability Insurance, 401K, Profit Sharing, and PTO all offered.
